How can an athiest/agnostic volunteer for work on Christmas?

Every year, Christmas Day, I see on the news that a congregation of Jews are volunteering at a local hospital/other place that needs to be open, so Christians can have the day off.

I'm not going to celebrate Christmas this year, and though I'd do my part. How do I sign up to volunteer?

Best plan I have is to go down to the local synagogue this Friday and ask around.|||If you live in the USA, visit "HandOn Network" on the Internet (www.handsonnetwork.org). It has 252 volunteer center affiliates across the country. Some centers will offer volunteer projects on Christmas Day.

Look up the volunteer center in or near your town. Visit the local HandsOn affiliate's website. For example, its Hands On Orlando in Central Florida. Atheists, Humanists, Freethinkers, etc. are always welcome. Everyone in fact is welcome!

Check out its volunteer project calendar. During any given month there are usually dozens of really excellent volunteer opportunities that you can join: everything from improving a public park to a birthday party for homeless children at a shelter.|||livin life is right, there's no reason your religion (or lack thereof) should hold you back from volunteering on Christmas. All you need to do is fill out the paperwork (or however you sign up) like you would any other time of the year. Is it the hospital you're going for, or is it soemthing else? Either way, you should go ahead and call up and ask, I'm sure they'll be thrilled and put you in the direction. You can also look in your newspaper or around the web and see who needs volunteers that day, they usually try to get the word out during the holidays.

Good luck!|||Why not, they arent celebrating since they dont believe in God, and they want to be nice for those who do. Volunteering is about giving a service for free, helping others, religion doesnt play a part in it..it comes from the heart. Jewish people are not atheists. They just dont believe in Jesus as the savior|||Volunteer or don't volunteer...don't drag all the other stuff into it.
