Operation Christmas Child: How can I get involved in bringing boxes to children in other countries?

I've been involved with Operation Christmas Child at my church for a number of years, organizing drives and packing boxes. How can I get involved in actually bringing the boxes to children overseas? Do they bring boxes during Christmas or year-round? I'm a 19 y/o college student and Christian.|||Hello, Good Day!

I wud like to add to what the other Two responders have suggested as under:

a) You can ship year-round.

b) Check the existing laws that prevails in the country of destination.

c)Usually the charitable items are tax exempted in most countries - but in many 3rd world countries shipping charitable goods is easy - but releasing them thru customs formalities are a BIG PAIN in the A...!!!!

d) Make sure that these items are Tax-Exempted in the country in which you are taking them / shipping to.

e) Few may require their respective ministry's prior permission - otherwise you can not release them.

Best of luck

Cheers

Love %26amp; Peace for Mankind|||They usually ship them in what is called a container, wich is a smaller version of a trailer from a trailer truck and then they ship it to where it is going. Some chuches send people to deliver the boxes too and if you contact Operation Christmas Child they will gladly tell you where to sign up,they need people to go help because it is Christmas and not everybody wants to leave there family. What are some good Christmas gifts for teens and burn victims?

I started volunteering for Child Protective Services and saw that most people donate gifts for little kids but not for the teens. What are some good gifts for girls and boys ages 14 - 18. Also, the burn center has children without fingers and some without arms. What kind of Christmas gifts are good for kids like that??? I am really at a loss. |||Well, I think what you're doing is wonderful! I think maybe books would be nice... Maybe gift cards? Hmm... teens are so hard to buy for... I personally think journals make good gifts for people (maybe not the the burn victims) in those sorts of situations so they can work through their problems and whatnot... Even if you like baked a bunch of Christmas cookies, I'm sure it would be much appreciated. Maybe even things like basketballs or sports things for the kids who are into sports... But the burn victims will be hard to buy for. Even just writing them letters and giving them Christmas cards could do so much to brighten their day, you know? Or visit them in the hospital.

Perhaps talk to the people at CPS and find out about some of the teens like if they have special interests you can buy them something for. I don't know but I really admire you.|||Books.|||cd's or gift cards..|||A matching beanie and scarf|||Gift cards to Wal-Mart, Target or Hastings (even $10.00 ones) - would let them pick out a book, music, jewelry, clothing, art supplies - what they would like. Journals with cool pens, art tablets and markers or charcoal are nice. Handheld games. Stocking hats %26amp; scarves. Stuffed animals, those really soft scrunchy pillows.

For burn victims - that is a toughy. I think probably DVD's of the latest movies. Music. Again - hats and scarves. Really soft, cuddly stuffed animals.

I would suggest asking some of the nurses at the burn center what they would recommend.

We put some lights and wreaths already. When do you put up the Christmas tree? Do you do it the same time every year?|||Okay well Im a Christmas baby and Im obsessed with Christmas and it has to be PERFECT every year for me... So this is my opinion..

If you do it too early.. Like in the beginning of November.. By the time its Christmas you dont appreciate the decorations as much. And it takes away the Christmas mood. haha. Like you might as well put them up in the middle of Summer.. you know?

But if you put it up too late.. Than you barely even get to have your decorations up.. I think it should be after Thanksgiving. When do you start celebrating Christmas?

It's October, and yesterday I saw a christmas tree in a shop window and saw a christmas ad on TV. I had also heard a couple of weeks ago of someone who'd received a christmas card. Do you think this is too early to be celebrating christmas? When do you start, i.e. when do you put your decorations up and send cards out? |||At the big box store where I work, they got the Xmas stuff in in mid September, believe it or not and it was up and on sale not long after. We also got snow blowers. Perhaps it has to do with the fact that the lead time for seasonal stuff is several months. By November we will probably be getting in lawn mowers and grass seed.

As you know, the planet enters a time warp about November and time accelerates alarmingly towards the end of the year and the days pass faster and faster and the days get very short. Thank God there is a week between Christmas and New Years just to catch our breath. |||I agree that Christmas starts early every year, but ive noticed in the past 10 years its not as bad, i think people cottoned on to the fact that toy company's or as they are now called, Greedy Company's, were taking away the magic of christmas, as adults we can understand the need for profit and christmas in 2008 is mostly about profit, BUT to a child it should be about love, happiness, giving and enjoying christmas time, so i think October is just about right to maybe be receiving Xmas catalogs or the odd decoration here and there, but a child should never be in the christmas spirit until December 1st, that's what i can't forgive the manufacturers for, feeding a child's mind in September for prezzies. my decorations go up around 1st dec, and the presents are usually already in, look at it this way, can you imagine the panic and disaster if everyone left it to December the 20th, i call it secret christmas from oct to dec, and real christmas around the beginning of dec, i think i'll stop now my fingers are hurting, Happy christmas.||| Most retailers get a "jump" on the holidays to try and get you to start thinking of Christmas and start buying so they can sell it all to you .and more ,and they can make more money The stores are already full of Christmas trees and decorations everything and anything to do with the holidays which seems so odd before Halloween and Thanksgiving but they push more and more every year it is their biggest markup time but most of us do not actually start till the day after Thanksgiving . the real "kickoff time " many are now thinking of Holiday cookie parties and what they will be doing for the holidays Yes it is full of commercialism but it is up to the consumer not to over spend It is still Christmas and a wonderful time|||It depends on the person itself. Ask yourself when YOU want to start celebrating Christmas. Its not up to anyone else :)

Hope that helps. xx|||Some of us love Christmas so much that we think about it, plan for it and shop for it all year round.

To keep in the mood, I ususally make a "love" gift for one of the people on my list. A "love" gift is something that takes time to make. As I sew it, I try to keep my thoughts around the person I'm giving the gift to.

Because I love Christmas so much, it's hard for me to wait until Dec. 25 to give my favorite people their Christmas gifts, so many times the item I make for them is something that they can use during the holdiday season, like a quilted wall hanging, a Christmas angel or a reindeer doll.

On a more personal note, I start Christmas shopping right after Christmas (cards, wrap, ribbon, tags, Christmas fabric). I put my tree up the first week of December. I write out Christmas cards over the Thanksgiving weekend and mail them by December 10. I start making my reindeers and rabbits and quilts and stockings and ... usually in March and that just goes on until Christmas Eve. I try to have everything but the food done by December 15. The baking of cookies, the making of fudge and pecans are done that week before Christmas. My famous display of popcorn balls, mineolas and walnuts I do on Christmas Eve day (because it won't last otherwise).

I have never thought of Christmas as an actual date, but a frame of mind. |||I have already started shopping, but not "celebrating". We will start playing Christmas music after Thanksgiving, but we really don't start any festivities until we all go back to New England in mid-December. How long does christmas ham last in the freezer?

does anyone know how long i can keep chopped up left over christmas ham in the freezer for?

in a plastic box or bag?|||Multiple sites indicate that 3-4 months is tops. However, I have used after 6 months and it seemed fine if placed in well sealed freezer bag that was not much larger then ham portion being frozen.|||Tha traditional answer: You can keep it frozen for about 3-4 weeks. But remember that there have been scientists who found mammoths frozen in the permafrost, and actually defrosted and ate the meat, thousands of years later. And they lived! So I wouldn't worry too much about that ham. Why do my christmas lights trip my breaker after about 20 minutes?

I have a circuit with 3 outlets and a 20 amp breaker for my Christmas lights. The first outlet is a ground fault outlet. The other 2 are normal outlets. After about 15 or 20 minutes my breaker trips. I really dont think I have over 20 amps in lights. I would think that if it were a short due to snow the ground fault would trip first, but its not. I was very careful to waterproof all extension cord joins as best I could. Any thought are appreciated.|||You thinking is correct. Here is more. A short circuit between wires will trip the breaker immediately and it will not reset. So the breaker is tripping due to an overload condition. An overload causes heat inside the circuit breaker, causing it to trip thermally as opposed to magnetically as it does from a short circuit. A short to ground due to snow in excess of 5 mili-amps will cause the ground fault to trip rather than the breaker. So the answer is, overload. Do you know anyone with a clamp on amp meter? That will show you the actual load. Check the GFCI by pushing the test button.|||What do you have plugged in to the outlets besides Christmas lights? If there is anything that you can unplug, you can try that and see what happens. If the breaker does not trip then your circuit was overloaded. If it still trips then the problem is with the lights. I had a 20 amp breaker once that tripped prematurely and needed to be replaced.|||Its about 1 wat per bulb. Roughly 100 bulbs draw one amp. So count your bulbs and make sure you dont have more than 20 amps worth.|||You may have a short inside of one of the wires feeding your lights. Might not be the joints. It could possibly be the wires. But if you waterproofed them by wrapping them up in some kind of plastic that is a bad idea. The moisture cannot get out if any gets in there. Have them covered well off the ground but try not to wrap them up to the point where they can't get the moisture to evaporate from it. First I would try plugging in just one set. Testing it. Then after move to the next set. You will probably find out that its just one set doing it. So my best advice:

Off the ground

Don't wrap in plastic

Possible short in one of the wires feeding the lights

Covered but not to the point where moisture cannot escape.|||i'm no electrician but the extension cord may not be heavy enough and after a period it heats up causing more draw.also you could hae more amps on your lights than you think or it might be a combination.|||If your breaker trips before your GFI plug somethings not right. For a GFI to work properly it has to be the first plug connected from the fuse panel, that way it protects all the outlets after that. It sounds to me that this may not be the case here or maybe the GFI is not working. There is a small plug-in tester you can buy at lowes/home depot for about $5 that will tell you if your outlets are wired correctly and if they are GFI protected. If all else fails start unplugging your extension cords one by one (starting from the far end of course) and see if the problem goes away.

What are good christmas present Ideas for a 12year old girl that loves animals?

I don't know what I would like for christmas and I keep on getting asked. I am 12 years old and I don't know what I would like this year. I love horses the most out of all animals. Please help me out.|||Every teenage girl is very fashion conscious. You will very rarely find any girl who is not concerned about beauty and figure. So beauty products like mud packs, herbal scrubs and different types of cosmetics are the ideal Christmas gifts for teenage girls.

For more studious and quiet teenagers you can get light romantic novels. Sweet Valley High series, Mills and Boons and Sidney Sheldon are some of the popular novels amongst teenagers.

It will also teach them to be responsible and will also give them company|||so you"re 12, horse cuddly toys are cute , but since your 12 , maybe thats not a good idea.Lego is fun to play with but that has nothing to do with animals.the pimpa funnel ds game is good ,its all about horses ,but maybe you dont have a ds. Or maybe ask for a pet if you don't have one already.|||At 12, ask for Opportunities, not Stuff!

Ask for lessons (piano, quilting, horse riding, language, sewing, cooking, writing, cheese making, pickling, sculpting, puppetry, etc.),

a trip somewhere (I went to Ghana, Africa when I was 13!),

a promise of special time with each parent (like a shopping trip to Chicago with your Mom or a fancy dinner date with your Dad),

or ask your grandparents to get a nice journal and document some of your family history (before they die and you wish you'd asked).

OR, ask for things to improve your mind:

a magazine subscription,

non-fiction books,

classic literature,

a musical instrument,

international music CDs,

crafting kits,

Good Luck and I hope you have a Merry Christmas!|||If you like showing horses, maybe a new showing outfit! Or if you just love riding, new riding boots and a new riding coat.

NEVER ASK FOR A PET AS A PRESENT!

If you want an animal for a gift, ask for a gift card to a pet store so you can go and pick out the animal yourself, if you must get one as a present. Otherwise, I suggest saving up yourself for a pet. That way, you value the animal a whole lot more because of how hard you worked to get it.

What is the point of depressing Christmas songs other than to contribute to the holiday suicide rate?

Isn't Christmas supposed to be a happy time? Then why are these particular songs so popular and why won't the worst of them (Christmas Shoes for example) go away? Everyone talks about how the holidays are a prime time for people to commit suicide from depression and these songs that go out of their way to be depressing don't help a damn thing. |||Well, I make it a point not to listen to depressing songs. I think that those songs are actually the songwriters getting something off their chests. BTW, I think that "I'll be home for Christmas" is kind of depressing bc at the end, you realize that being home is only in the person's dreams and that he/she will not really be able to get home for Christmas. I understand that song was popular during ww2. Might have been therapeutic for servicemen stationed far from home.|||Its not the songs its the people who listen to them if they get depressed they should listen to more up beat music it is a choice.I doubt any song ever caused a suicide,it is Far to complicated to blame a song of any kind, for such an act.|||Well these artists are just expressing their feelings through song. How do I serve the Luxury Christmas Pudding w/brandy I purchased from Harrods last year?

The label says it will be good until 2009 (I'm hoping it is still good). I'm planning on serving it at Christmas this year. I'm from the US and have never had one.

We intended to eat it last Christmas, but didn't know how to serve it. The label says to steam it a couple hours.

Do most people serve it with a sauce or not?

Any suggestions will be most appreciated.|||Turn the pudding out onto a large plate and flame with brandy (a quick tip is to warm the brandy slightly before pouring over the pudding)

.

Brandy Butter

175g (6oz) unsalted butter

175g (6oz) soft dark brown sugar

6 tablespoons of brandy

1. Beat the butter and sugar together until soft and creamy. Then gradually add the brandy to the mixture, ensuring that after each addition you beat the mixture well. This prevents the butter curdling.

2. Place the mixture into a covered container and chill for at least an hour before serving.

3. The Brandy butter will keep for up to two weeks in the refrigerator, so it can be made well ahead of Christmas Day.|||Of course its ok they last for years

Make or buy some brandy sauce

Cook it as instructed - some but not all can be microwaved

Get some cognac and warm it up just before serving

Turn the lights down low

When its on the table pour your warm cognac over it and set fire to it but don't overdo it or you will need a fire extinguiher!

If you don't warm the cognac enough it won't light up

Happy Christmas|||Steam the pudding as per the instructions and serve it with a brandy sauce or flame it with brandy and serve it with a white sauce. Or flame it with brandy and serve it with custard. Or forget the pudding and drink the brandy. Merry Christmas.|||Many people steam their puddings for hours, but I always just microwave mine - just as good.

Heat - pour over warm brandy and light when coming to the table.

I want a simple, easy receipe that's not too expensive, yet festive. They are really cheap too - get them at your local grocery store or walmart!!! =)|||I suggest going to www.allrecipes.com It has a ton of cookie recipes and they are rated by people who have tried it, and people comment what they did differently to the recipe if necessary, etc. I get most of my food ideas from there.|||Gingerbread men!!! Perfect for Christmas, and you can make a nice white royal icing to do the decorations or use candies. Have fun!

How can I make a common Christmas lights strand twinkle on its own?

I have a strand of Christmas lights and they don't blink, but I want them to blink and I am desperate about that! If I can't find a way to get my Christmas lights blink I think i will need to be hospitalized.

How can I fix this damn strand?|||I believe all you need is a blinker bulb. Not sure what kind of lights you have but I know this works on mini's and C-7 light strands. Just make sure you unscrew the first or second bulb in the strand (or pop out if it's a mini), then replace it with your new blinker bulb.

There are also "blinker boxes" you can purchase (I bought one at a well know bargain store). These will make any lights that are plugged into the box, blink.

Good luck!|||I am pretty sure there are specialized christmas lights that are made to do that sort of thing, but I know there is a way to do this with ordinary lights. The problem is that this alternative plan may end up costing more than just buying all new lights.

The Christmas stocking-How did Christmas stockings come to be and what is the history of them?

Were Christmas stockings always around or did someone invent the idea of Christmas stockings?|||The Legend Of The Christmas Stocking

According to legend, the custom of hanging up stockings during Christmas began all the way back in the 4th century with St. Nicholas. The story told is about a nobleman who was once rich and powerful, but then came into hard times. Whether rich or poor, he was always kindly and generous to his fellow man.

His wife had passed away and he was left with a daughter who he loved very much, but could not provide her with a dowry. Without the dowry, she could not marry, which made them both very sad.

Nicholas heard of the troubles of the nobleman and one night, during the Christmas season, Nicholas threw a bag of gold through the man's window. The bag of gold landed in one of the girl's stockings that had been hung up to dry. The gold was just enough to be used as her dowry.

Since then, Children have hung their stockings up each Christmas Eve in the hope of finding treasure in them in the morning.|||The tradition probably came to America with immigrants. Most people believe the tradition started with the Dutch. See below.

And also, christmas traditions such as Putting up the christmas tree, seeing friends and family, i just generally love it.

I wish christmas wasn't so commercial nowadays, and more traditional like it used to be,

To be honest, i wouldn't care if i didn't get any gifts on christmas, i prefer the feeling and love, and how the whole world is brought together for something special, rather than a few gifts, which will probably be used several times and then forgotten about.

Ahhh i can't wait until xmas :)|||Seeing, feeding and entertaining my two sons and daughter in law. Giving presents to people. The food that I buy just because it is Christmas. What are some ideas for Christmas presents for my Girlfriend?

We are both 16 years old and at Christmas we will have been together 6 months.

What are some ideas of things to buy her for christmas, keeping in mind we are both young and can't properly splash out maybe around £100 ?

Thank you all in advance !|||My husband and I had been together for about a month when we had our first Christmas. He gave me a very pretty watch (I didn't have one at the time) with a teddy bear while I gave him gifts that correlated with each letter of his name that meant something to him or us as a couple. I gave him a movie he wanted plus a gift card, as well as a bag of chocolate and about seven energy drinks plus a home-made gift that had a saying we had made our own. I wrote out a small little thing for each gift and how it went with that letter of his name.

As long as you take time with the gift and actually put effort into it, she will like it.|||I personally would love it if my boyfriend would make me something.. I hate when people buy me store bought stuff (and I cringe at the thought of getting a giftcard to a retail store) because that's stuff I can get myself, and it's so impersonal.

Put extra effort into it, and make your gf something. She will appreciate it so much more. Here are some ideas off the top of my head:

Make a mini scrap book of pictures of your times together

Write a song/poem for her

Compilate a mix cd for her and decorate it (use her fav songs or a song that reminds you of her)

etc|||well i guess it all depends on how sentimental you two are, i like to make my own x-mas cards with crafts its cheaper if you have the stuff and you can make it sweet and funny. you also could buy or make a picture frame and put a cute picture of the two of you in it, maybe some candy, flowers, plan a nice night for the two of you, take her out to eat somewhere nice, gift cards, be spontaneous and sweet as long as you can tell you put thought and care into the present shell like it!|||What about a necklace with her birth gem in it?

Depending what month she was born in it will be

January- Garnet

February- Amethyst

March- Aquamarine

April- Diamond/Crystal

May- Emerald/Chrysoprase

June- Pearl/Moonstone

July- Ruby

August- Peridot

September- Sapphire

October- Opal/Tourmaline

November- Yellow Topaz/Citrine

December- Turquoise/Blue Topaz

I wil put a website below that seems quite good and you can get something nice for less than £100.

Hope you find something nice.|||Good ideas:

*Jewelry(earrings, necklaes, rings,etc) ----%26gt; my #1 favorite !

What should I make for Christmas Dinner with my boyfriends family?

We live together and decided we wanted to start having his family Christmas at our house. We have more than enough room and I love to bake and decorate for Christmas. Only one problem, this will be the first time cooking for this many people. If everyone shows up there are 12 people. I want it to be great so they will want to have this at our house every year. I was thinking about asking everyone to bring 1 thing; a side or desert. But for the main dish I need recipes/ideas. Thanks!|||Frito casserole. Pure white trash goodness!!! (I am not knocking it, I like it.)

Honey baked hams are simple and good, but pricey. Not really homemade, but still. Pre-cooked (sometimes even warm still) and all you have to do is pour the brown sugar glaze on and bake it. It is guaranteed to taste good, so you won't have too much pressure on making a bad dish.

Roasts are another simple idea that will typically turn out well if you've cooked one before.

You still have over a month to perfect it!|||Traditionally in my family we always served ham as the main course and cheesy potatoes and baked beans and any one could bring and extra dish or really good bakery buns and butter or any thing they like. The real point about the Holidays...is just being together. Your going to do great.|||where do you live? If it's a winter christmas then think about a hot turkey, pig, or chicken with gravy/white sauce...maybe all 3? with some roast vegetables. If it's a summer christmas then maybe have a cold leg of ham, turkey or chicken with an awesome salad and cold potato salad.|||some turkey with gravy and mash potatoes and gravy and stuffing and rolls and some corn or green beans or something like that and cookies yummy|||Open pit Roast Pig

How do I hang Christmas Lights and Garlands on Concrete?

We live on the 3rd floor and my husband and I want to hang a Christmas garland and some xmas lights, however the balcony we have is concrete. What can my husband and use to hang up our Christmas decorations?|||It might be a little expensive but I have used Command Adhesive strips. they worked well in our shower stall on tile.

Good Luck.|||Duct tape, make sure you tie the ends to something secure, can use a rope if you need to - just in case it does come loose.|||use the mechanical tape or use nails to hang

What is the worst Christmas or birthday gift you have ever received?

I have a family member who is notorious for giving awful Christmas gifts. One year I got a George Foreman grill cleaning sponge, but no George Foreman grill and I didn't already own one. If you've never seen the George Foreman grill cleaning sponge, it is very specific to that grill and would have little use for anything else.

What's the worst gift you have ever received for Christmas or otherwise?|||for my birthday when i was younger my aunt gave me a kitten knowing darn well that my parents would not let me keep it. i cried and cried. looking back now it was a really mean thing to do to a little girl! it wasnt a bad gift or anything but it was the worst thing to give someone something they couldnt keep!|||My worst gift was no gift at all. My idea on gift-giving, is that as long as the person took the time to pick something out and wrap it, or make the gift, then it's good enough for me. I got toilet paper one year. I didn't care, because hey, everyone can use tp, right? It's just the fact that when you are the only person without a gift under the tree, it can make you feel sad and you feel as if you weren't worth the time to even have something re-gifted to you.|||Last night, I hosted my basketball team's Christmas party. In the secret santa, I got my friend a box of chocolates and $20 to Jamba Juice. We were supposed to spend $20. My gift was... a candle. One candle. I pretended to really like it, and the girl goes, my mom made it. Later, I saw that there was a little company logo and sticker on the bottom. I'm 15, and my mom's not even going to let me burn it in my room.

Several years ago, when my twin brother and I were 9, my neighbors got him bike gloves, an expensive ramp, and other bike accessories. I got a magnetic tic-tac-toe board to "share" with him. The nest year they actually didn't get me anything and gave him a $50 check. It was so awkward just standing there...

When I was 11, my mom's friend got us nutcrackers. it was weird.

Five times for Hanukkah my grandma has given me velour sweat outfits, even though I have never, not one, worn any kind of sweats, as I think they are horrendous. Better yet, she gets them in XS or S because "I'm skinny." I may be, but I'm also 5'10"|||my aunt is super skinny. she's around 5'5 and weighs maybe 90 pounds? and she's proud of it, even though she's like 50, she still thinks she's hot because she's so skinny but she looks gross more than hot. but she likes to make all of us normal sized people like me, okay, i'm 4'11 and weigh about 115 pounds. yeah i'm not skinny but i'm not fat either. but she always goes christmas shopping for my grandpa and she'll get me shirts or sweatpants or something that are XL. uh, i wear a medium thank you. i hate that! she does it for everyone|||%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt;%26gt; How about this one: The most fashionable and popular flash Christmas e-card gift forwarded online.

How is Canadian christmas dinner different from other christmas dinners around the world?

What are the different main foods?

What, if any are the different traditions at christmas dinner around the world?

I'd really appreciate the details and any links to helpful websites if you have any.|||Hi ! :)

Here in Trinidad and Tobago, usually, we don't have a formal "dinner". We have Ham, Turkey, Pastelles, and basically any other food like Christmas Rice (Fried rice with raisins in it) and Chicken, usually baked. However, the interesting thing about our Christmas dinner is that we have a very informal dinner, usually a "Parang Band" - a group of people, similar to carolers, except they sing nacemientos(songs about christ in spanish) in a style that americans would experience during cinco de mayo... you may youtube it if you'd like. These bands are rather informal, and are usually a group of people just having fun. Historically, this was a widely accepted thing, however, as of recent, people aren't that fond of strangers coming into their homes (Youtube Marcia Miranda's Theifing Parang Band)

Hope I helped ^.^ Oh and Trinidad and Tobago is the southern most Caribbean Islands in the caribbean island chain. We are NOT jamaica or any part of jamaica -.-' lol sorry just usually people see caribbean and instantly think "Jamaica" and "Reggae" %26gt;.%26lt;
