What is the best way to tape Christmas lights to my car parade?

I was asked to drive my car in a Christmas parade and to decorate it with 400 twinkle lights. I would put the lights on a day or two in advance and take them off right after the parade. I don't want to ruin my paint, Any ideas?|||Blue painter's tape. This stuff works pretty will on all kinds of finishes and holds too.|||we used small clear rubber suction cups this eyar. the larger oens didn't stay, but hte small ones stayed very well@ (i think they were meant for putting lights on windows) they have a littel clip on the end (picked them up at walmart)
