How to plant and care for a christmas tree?

Ive planted a christmas tree in my garden. It was nearly dead but now has new shoots half way up can i cut the dead bits off and maybe cut it down to half its size where the new shoots are growing as the top looks very dead.|||Evergreens recover from damage VERY slowly. The parts that are brown will never turn green again. If you have a tree with only a few shoots, halfway up, the tree is going to look really awful for years - if it survives. I recommend planting a new tree. Start small if you like to watch them grow. A 2 foot evergreen can be purchased for $20.|||Yes to both questions, but let the new shoots develop awhile before pruning the tree. Commercial Christmas tree growers always cut above the lower limbs when they harvest trees. One or more of the strongest limbs will turn up and become another tree. When your tree is grown it will simply have an odd shaped lower trunk. Watch the tree closely since the dead sections can attract pests.
