How long can a blue spruce christmas tree live in the house?

I want to put up my new blue spruce but I don't know how long or if it will last until Christmas.|||if it was freshly cut, and in water the whole time, and not over the heat should be no problem|||For a real tree living in a pot of dirt? 10 days max. We put ours up on the 16th and take it down on the 26th.

You don't want the tree to break dormancy and start growing because it'll be extremely prone to winter damage once it's returned outside. You should start acclimating the tree now by storing it in an unheated garage or basement. Then into the house, and then back to the garage or basement before it goes back outside. Just to be safe.|||There are several methods for preserving or... extending the life of real trees. One is to add nutrients to the water pan under the trunk. They can be found at most every department store like Wally World or Home Despot.

Another way is to apply a spray that basically seals the needles to the tree and prevents decay and is somewhat flame retardant. More chemicals tho... and so I would not suggest this one.

One homespun method just has you add a can of Sprite or 7up to the water pan and that does work to extend freshness for a while. It's a lot less chemicals and one avenue that i have tried with some degree of success.

Best wishes and Merry Christmas!

|||A fresh-cut blue spruce can last 3-4 weeks if it's properly watered. Make sure the water in the stand doesn't fall below the cut end of the trunk, and use plain tap water in the bowl. If your tree is pre-cut, or if you've had it cut for more than a few hours, you need to make a 1/2" cut at the bottom before setting it in the stand.

Enjoy, and Merry Christmas!
