What is better for cats at Christmas time: real or fake tree?

I love Christmas and love real trees but this year we have two 1 year old cats and I am worried about them and the tree. They dont tend to climb things much but I am afraid of them eating the pine needles. Any suggestions?|||I don't think it matters much whether it is real of fake,we have 3 cats and always have a real fir tree.I would be more concerned with types of decoration you use, icicles are very bad for cats because they can try to play with them and icicles can cause serious problems if they are eaten and get in the cats intestine.I would also be concerned about glass ornaments on the lower branches as cats could play with them and if they break hurt themselves on the broken glass.

Our cats have never tried to climb our tree or eat any of the needles but if you are worried about that just get a fake one because there is no point in getting a real one and then worrying about it all the holidays.|||I have learned over the years a fake tree is definatly the way to go.

Becareful of the decorations you put on them. some cats like to chew on glass ( mine did ) icecicles are dangerous

Another thing i have learned over the years.....put the tree in a corner and tie a rope or something around the inside middle of it and ancor it to the wall.

many times i have had my cats climb up in there and knock the whole tree over. what a mess to be picking back up and redoing just about everyday.|||last year we had our fake tree up, and our two cats kept taking the branches off, we had to put it back together so many times.|||Since we have a cat we always have a fake tree! .And be careful with the decorations of the tree too!|||Try getting the fake tree this year if they like it use it agin

next year if not buy a real tree next year|||Fake....But either way they are going to be climbing it|||absolutely a fake tree, cats or any house pets should not be around real trees the pine needles get in their paws and they can be very painful and if left unnoticed have even caused infections.
